ACCREDITATION

All PYT's courses are accredited by one or more of the following internationally recognised organizations to be taught, examined and certified.

SAS - South African Sailing

Accredits all recreational certificates of competence for the sailing fraternity in South Africa.

SAMSA - South African Maritime Safety Authority

Responsible for the application of the Merchant Shipping Act 1951. Accredits all STCW courses in South Africa in terms of the IMO requirements.

MCA - Maritime and Coastguard Agency

Responsible for the application of all British laws relating to the Merchant Marine including the Megayacht industry.

IYT - International Yachtmaster Training

Issues certificates of competence up to Master of Yachts (200t) Ocean for recreational and commercial purposes that meet the requirements of the MCA manning policy for the Megayacht industry.

RYA - Royal Yachting Association

Issues certificates of competence up to Yachtmaster Unlimited for recreational and commercial purposes that meet the requirements of the MCA manning policy for the Megayacht industry. The benchmark for training processes within the small yacht industry.

FACILITIES

Professional Yachtmaster Training (PYT) in Durban, South Africa is one of the world's leading training facilities for mega and super yachts and the only MCA recognized academy in Africa.

Durban is Africa's busiest port and major maritime centre, an appropriate home to PYT.
The newly refurbished three storey academy is ideally located in the city centre and efficiently designed to house and train students from those starting out to those seeking advanced qualifications.

PYT offers world class training and our experienced and highly qualified instructors have at their disposal all the essential specialist equipment to train beginner and advanced megayacht crew, including a navigator and radar simulator, a 16' RIB safety life raft, two Lavranos L34's and a motor launch. The L34's have been specially modified for quality training of a maximum of five students at a time and are surveyed annually to ensure student safety. Power courses are conducted on a 42' twin screw motor launch.
