HIGHLIGHTS
You're
at the right place if you want to advance your megayacht career.
PYT's
Approved Engine Course offers the best value in price and time efficiency plus
you'll get the highest standards of maritime instruction anywhere. This MCA recognised
course gives you a basic knowledge of marine diesel engines, pollution legislation
and the use of LP Gas at sea, providing an introduction to yacht engineering courses
which meets the MCA engineering requirements on smaller vessels. This is a 5 Day course. A written exam is scheduled on the final day.
Yacht
Engineers in demand worldwide
 | Properly
qualified Yacht Engineers are currently very much in demand because of an oversupply
of Deck Officers. The MCA'S requirements for engineering qualifications were perceived
as more onerous than for the deck department and many aspirant engineers opted
for Yachtmaster deck officer training instead. One's resume and job prospects
will be greatly enhanced by adding basic engineering qualifications to a deck
officer certification.
|
The
progression through the ranks is very similar to the deck officer career course
with a series of shore based courses, oral examination and experience needed to
earn the various certificates of competence. Qualifying experience for all the
higher engineering qualifications is only recognized if the person holds an AEC
so no progress is possible without this certificate. | In
terms of the MCA requirements for commercially and privately operated yachts and
sail training vessels, the progression for engineering qualifications is from
the basic Approved Engine
Course (AEC) to the Marine
Engine Operators Licence (MEOL) and then the three levels of Chief
Engineer: Y4, Y3, Y2 and Y1. |
Note
that only approved training providers are authorized to offer MCA approved engineering
training.
There
are basic entry requirements for this course and the award of the AEC Certificate
is dependent upon the following: | i)
Not less than 1 month's service as a yachts engineer. ii) Completion of the
basic safety training (STCW 95 compliant) iii) Medical Certificate iv) Not
less than 18 years of age | | NOTE:
The
shore based course can be attended without satisfying the necessary requirements
listed above, however, certification will be withheld until such time as the requirements
have been met and proof is submitted. |
PYT
will continue to develop and accredit further modules for the engineering candidates
in the industry. The immediate courses will be the MEOL Oral Prep course, followed
by balance of the shore based courses for the Y4 certification. These include
Marine Diesel Engineering, Auxiliary Equipment and Basic Ship Construction and
Operational Procedures and Basic Hotel Services |
