the country that successfully hosted Rugby and Cricket World Cups and is hosting
the 2010 Soccer World Cup! Use
what you save to discover the country the world loves and that Nelson Mandela
made famous. |
 | Durban,
playground of South Africa and gateway to the Zulu Kingdom is located on South
Africa's subtropical east coast. Summer is almost year-round, with average maximums
of 35°C in February and 18°C in July. |
 | Mid-summer
is humid while winter is short and not very humid with warm days and cool evenings.
Durban starts shivering and the locals bring out the winter woollies when the
mercury plummets to 15°C! All you really need is a jersey and windbreaker
for the coolest days. |
 | The
miles of golden beaches, bars, clubs and pavement cafés make this a great
tourism destination. It's the gateway to the province of KwaZulu-Natal, also known
as the Kingdom of the Zulu, and has two world heritage sites - the Greater St
Lucia Wetland Park and the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park - plus game reserves with
the big five, all less than three hours by car from Durban.
|
 | The
game parks cater for every budget from backpackers and self catering to world
class luxury (some of South Africa's game lodges have been acclaimed as among
the best hotels in the world). The coast line abounds with holiday resorts and
luxury hotels line beaches with some of the best surfing, scuba (with sharks),
kiteboarding and fishing sites in the world.
|
 | Two
hours inland the mighty Drakensberg (Dragons' Mountains) rise 3000m. Here one
can walk or do horseback trails, fly fish, camp and rock climb without seeing
another person. This world heritage site is also home to a vast proliferation
of Bushman rock art dating back thousands of years.
|
 | In
most respects South Africa and Durban is first world. It has some of the best
medical facilities, a free press, state of the art telecommunication, giant shopping
malls and one of the world's healthiest economies. |
All
in all it's a paradise in which to train and holiday. | _______________________________________ Top |
