Mission Statement
Professional Yachtmaster Training's mission is to promote the sport of sailing in South Africa by creating a centre of Sail Training Excellence accredited by International Agencies. We specialise in training students of all nationalities, male or female, who wish to work overseas in the rapidly growing charter and private yacht and management industry, either for a gap year, after school or university, or as a long-term career.

We pride ourselves on going the extra mile on all our courses. Not only teaching the students how to sail, but by demonstrating what life on board a relatively small vessel at sea is like.

Students are encouraged to fend for themselves, to demonstrate their independence under our instructor's watchful eye, whilst attending the course.

They live on board for the duration and after the initial familiarisation period make their own onboard arrangements using the full inventory provided.
A good yacht crew has to work as a team and it is this spirit that we foster from the first day of the course.

The Crew
All our senior staff, administrative and instructional, are experienced yachtsmen and have hundreds of thousands of sea-miles experience.

Many have worked in the Caribbean and are in a unique position to advise students of the opportunities available to them.

Specialised Boats
Training is conducted on 34ft ocean-going yachts.
Designed in South Africa by Angelo Lovranos, these boats have demonstrated their strength and stability along our coastline. Our boats have been specially modified for training a maximum of six students at a time and are surveyed annually to ensure the students safety.

Location
Located in Durban training is conducted in the harbour and out at sea. The legendary Durban climate enables us to offer courses throughout the year. Local students escape the cold of the Gauteng or the cold wind and rain of the Cape in winter. International students benefit from exceptional sailing conditions throughout the year.
