Experience the exciting world of ocean going sailing with our weekend introductory courses.

Stay on a real 34 foot ocean going yacht.
Learn the basics of sailing!
Meet new friends.

If you're in Grade 9 to 12 then our new Schools Programme is for you! This is your opportunity to experience sailing on an ocean going yacht with our two day weekend course which includes sailing and living on board the yacht. It will also give you a taste of our 28 day career crew course - the ideal qualification to kick start a gap year or career in the megayacht industry that can take you to exotic locations in the Caribbean and the Med and see you earning thousands of $!

The two day weekend course starts at 08h00 on a Saturday morning at the PYT academy in Fenton Lane just a hundred metres from the yacht basin. (How to get there…) At 11h00 it's off to the boat for a briefing and to settle into your home from home for the next twenty four hours and the thrill of sailing.

The course ends on the Sunday afternoon with a debriefing and farewell on deck and finishes at 16h00. The course covers the basics of sea safety, navigation and sailing skills and the sailing is in the hands of our experienced and highly skilled instructor crew.

Topics briefly covered during the weekend course include:

Theoretical Skills
Basic sailing theory
Introduction to navigation
The rules of the road
Simple weather forecasting
Customs and etiquette
The language of sailing

Practical Skills

Sail handling
Helming
General crew drills
