HIGHLIGHTS
(STCW 95 Compliant) Safety
is paramount on the ocean and all crew members for the mega-yacht industry (in
fact for all ocean going vessels) are required to undergo basic safety training
prior to going to sea. Although there are many crew out there still without STCW
training, this state of affairs is being addressed.
| | With
instruction from people that have hands on industry experience, PYT's week long
course includes some fun in what is a serious subject. It covers all the aspects
of a crew member's responsibilities to themselves, their fellow crew members,
their guests and finally to their employer and consists of PSSR (Personal Safety
and Social Responsibility), Fire Fighting, First Aid and Basic Sea Survival.
| | The
PSSR Course covers your rights and obligations regarding your conditions of employment.
Safe working conditions and methods are introduced and your contractual rights
are carefully explained. This course is handled with sea survival and covers two
days.
|
 | Fire
Fighting is a three day course to integrate you into the vessel's fire fighting
plan. The practical portion includes the use of fire hoses, fire extinguishers
and breathing apparatus. Theory includes the mechanics of fire, fire fighting
techniques as well as fire prevention plans. | First
Aid is extremely important and training in casualty management, wound control
and CPR will ensure that you can immediately assist any crew member or guest who
suffers either an accident or medical emergency. The course takes the mystery
out of assistance and will teach you life saving techniques that will be useful
throughout your life.
|
 | Sea
Survival is one of the most rewarding courses. The course starts with the serious
side of use of survival equipment, the assisting of fellow crew members and guests
as well as the responsibilities of dealing with survival conditions. |
This
is followed by a fun-filled session in the sea covering the use of life rafts, life
jackets and survival suits and instruction in rescue techniques to round off a
fun part of the safety training.
PYT
offers this course in-house at reasonable rates, it can be run on demand for groups
of eight or more and it is run at least once a month. |
| | STCW'95
(Standard of Training, for Certification of Watchkeeping for Seafarers) is an
International Convention ensuring the quality of training for seafarers around
the world. | | Chapter
VI of the codes sets the standards regarding emergency, occupational safety, medical
care and survival functions and covers the mandatory minimum requirements for
the familiarization and basic safety training and instruction for seafarers.
|
| PYT
and its service providers are accredited by SAMSA, the South African Maritime
Safety Authority to provide basic safety training in terms of the STCW'95 code.
