APPROVED ENGINE COURSE (AEC 1)


From this course you start on the adventure of being a marine engineer on a super yacht. It is a theoretical course but includes practical demonstrations. The course will teach you about the environment you will work in, your responsibilities and a little about the equipment you will be responsible for. 

You will learn the cycle of operation regarding 2 stroke and 4 stroke diesel and petrol engines, their fuel, electrical, lubrication and cooling systems, the combustion process, power transmission and hull fittings.

The course provides the first few steps of a long path to your Y4 qualifications, and becoming a Chief Engineer responsible for yachts up to 200 gt with equipment up to 1500 kW.

APPROVED ENGINE COURSE 2 (AEC 2)

Overview

In terms of the MCA requirements for commercially and privately operated yachts and sail training vessels, the progression for engineering qualifications starts with the basic Approved Engine Course (AEC 1)


After the successful completion of the AEC 1, candidates are eligible to attend the Approved Engine Course 2 (AEC 2) course. 

It is possible to attend an AEC 2 course directly after the AEC 1, as there is no requirement to have held the AEC 1 for any stipulated period of time. 

Only approved training providers are authorized to offer MCA approved engineering training. 

What are the qualifying requirements for the certificate? 

Candidates must be not less than 18 years of age and must have: AEC 1
